Our security department is asking us to either increase the size of the floating desktop icon seen during remote control or show a pop-up notification to tell the user the session has ended. Anyone seen an easy way to do either?
Is there a way to increase the size of the floating desktop icon?
End support for classic RC Viewer
I am trying to understand what it would take for full adoption of HTML remote control so that we could EOL the old viewer. I know HTML is missing several key features to have parity with the Classic viewer. What are the missing features preventing you from adopting HTML remote control as your primary viewer?

Report Id: de787d70-4bdb-11e0-bc17-0050568e1eb4
Cause: Beyond Trust has seen this issue with some of their customers and LANDesk. PBWD will load the DLLs when the process executable starts, to enable detection if elevated rights are needed, and whenever other items are set to detect. After PBWD unloads from the process, some programs have problems with this. The two from LANDesk that has issues with this are rcgui.exe and issclipexec.
Resolution: BeyondTrust is aware of this conflict. It can be resolved by having at least client version 4.9.1 and creating the following registry string value:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BeyondTrust\PrivilegeManager
ExcludedProfilerApps=C:\PROGRA~2\LANDesk\LDClient\rcgui.exe;C:\PROGRA~2\LANDesk\LDClient\issclipexec.exe
Or you can create the following batch job to send out to your machines:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\BeyondTrust\PrivilegeManager" /v "ExcludedApps" /d "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\issuser.exe;C:\PROGRA~1\LANDesk\LDClient\issuser.exe;C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\rcgui.exe;C:\PROGRA~1\LANDesk\LDClient\rcgui.exe" /f

LDBlank.sys causing bluescreens on clients.
Description
After installing the agent to some machines, the computer bluescreens and lists the faulty module as ldblank.sys.
This might only occur after the computer reboots after the initial agent installation. So if the computer does not reboot for some time after the agent installation, it may "appear" to come up "out of the blue".
On 64-bit systems the following error message may appear: "\SystemRoot\SysWow64\drivers\ldblank.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver"
The cause can be several different things:
- Conflict with the video driver
- Incompatibility with Mirror driver and/or screen blanking driver
- Conflict with a 3rd party remote control product
- Incomplete agent installation
Resolution
Reboot the system in Safe Mode and delete the ldblank.sys from the %windows%\system32 directory, reboot.
Depending on the cause of the issue, one or more of the following may need to be done.
Incomplete agent installation
1. After renaming or deleting ldblank.sys from safe mode, uninstall the agent, and then reinstall.
If the problem was due to an incomplete agent installation or failed registration of the remote control components, this should resolve the issue.
Video driver incompatibility
1. Determine what video card the system has.
2. Either downgrade or upgrade the video driver (to an older or newer version than it currently has installed)
Nvidia drivers can be found here
ATI drivers can be found here
Intel Drivers can be found here
Install the updated driver and then reinstall the agent and see if the issue persists.
Incompatability with with Mirror driver and/or Screen Blanking driver
In the agent options turn off the Mirror driver and/or Screen Blanking driver. This is done in the Agent Configuration tool under the Remote Control --> Indicators --> Agent settings section. Conflict with a 3rd party remote control product. If you have a third party remote control product (a remote control agent other than LANDESK's remote control agent) installed, this can cause conflicts with our remote control functions.
Starting remote session on a client which is not in the scope
Hi,
We have five departments in the company, so there are five user management scopes in our LDMS. A helpdesk coworker downloaded the remote control viewer incl. all necessary files and startet the isscntr.exe. He put in the name of a device which is in his scope and started a remote session. That is OK but for testing he put in the name of a device which is NOT in his scope and could start a remote session, too. In our case, this should not be possible.
Does the remote control viewer not check if the device is in his scope?

LANDesk Mgt Suite 9.5 white paper
Hello,
My organization is about to begin using LANDesk Mgt Suite 9.5 (w/ the gateway appliance) for remotely accessing our customer premised servers.
We are looking to create a white paper for our customers that will address the technical aspects of the remote control portion of LD 9.5.
No doubt our customers will want to see how this may affect security within their organization and wish to address this with a white paper addressing any concerns or questions they might have.
Has anyone put something like this together or know if LANDesk has one that we can tweak?
The Mgt Suite 9.5 user manual did not provide what we are looking for.
Thank you,
RJ
Direct Remote Control from web console doesn't work, asks to install Mozilla/Firefox plugin
Environment
Core:
- LANDesk Management Suite 9.0 SP4
- IE 11.0.9600.17207
- LANDesk Management Suite 9.5 SP2
- IE 11.0.9600.17207
- Chrome 36.0.1985.125 m (Requires to use IE Tab extension for Chrome to have the Compatibility View feature)
- Firefox 31.0 (Requires to use IE Tab add-on for Mozilla to have the Compatibility View feature)
Client:
- Windows 7
- Windows 8
- Windows 8.1
Symptoms
- You cannot use the Direct mode Remote Control from the web console
- A pop up appears and ask to install the Mozilla/Firefox plugin
Cause
This seems to be due to a problem with recent web browsers not allowing ExecViewer2.dll to call the Legacy Remote Control console.
Resolution
From your Core Server:
- Locate your “ExecViewer2.dll” file, which is usually in:
Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\ServerManager\RCViewer\
- Open a command prompt as administrator and type in:
regsvr32 “C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\ServerManager\RCViewer\ExecViewer2.dll"
Internet Explorer
- If using IE, open the Tools / Compatibility View settings and add your Core server:
Firefox
- If using Firefox, once you have installed IE Tab add-on, open your addons page: about:addons
- Open the IE Tab Options and add your Corse server name to your sites list
Chrome
- If using Chrome, the settings are done automatically

How do I use the HTML remote control from an HTML5 capable browser
To use the new HTML5 remote control when away from a LANDesk Management Console.
Bring up your favorite HTML5 capable browser and in the address bar put
https://<machine name> or <IP>:4343
Then enter credentials that have rights to remote control.
This is an account with rights on the core server, not the computer being remote controled.
Issues remoting to a pc
While attempting to remote to a users computer I am only able to pull up a blank screen. I can remote to them through remote desktop connection but unable to in landesk. I am able to remote to several other computers including some in the same are as the problem pc. I have performed a full sync and redeployed the agent configuration but those dont appear to have helped. I am new to LANDesk so I am not sure what other steps to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't remote control while on battery
Anyone ever seen a problem with trying to remote control from a laptop while on battery.? This is using the LDMS remote console.
I can plug the laptop in and the remote control window comes up normally. If I unplug the laptop and click on remote control, it does nothing. No remote window even appears.
I am running Windows 7 pro x64. Both power policies for plugged in and unplugged are the same in Windows.
Can't contact remote computer using LANDesk PDS2 discovery.
I am using LANDesk 9 Service Pack1. I tried to connect to a PC today and recieved the error "Can't contact remote computer using LANDesk PDS2 discovery." I read a couple articles that said to make sure ports 9595 and 9535 are not blocked. When I scan the ports, I see 9535 is open and no listing for 9595. I scanned a machine that I had just remoted into and the same ports were listed: 9535 was there and 9595 was not.
Does anyone have more information as to why I may be recieving this error?
Thank you
Solving Remote Control problem before upgrading LANDesk 9.0 to LANDesk 9.6
I have LANDesk 9.0.2.3 installed on an HP server running Win Server 2008 R2 SP1. I would like to upgrade the 9.0 version to LANDesk 9.6. I've read through Nathan Smith's article on "Best Known Methods for Installing 9.6". I have one problem that I would like to solve before I do this. I have one Remote Control session that continually pops up without my accessing the computer. I can close the remote control session, come back to the server a little later, and a Remote Control session to the same computer has reopened. I have tried deleting the device and adding it again from Unmanaged Device Discovery. I have even tried deleting the device and not installing it, and it still continues to pop up, sometimes even opening the remote control session. I've had the user close the sessions (unless I've contacted her first) and it just keeps coming back. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Enable HTML Remote Control for "IT Help Desk"
Hello -
Hoping this is something dumb I've missed. Is there somewhere specific I have to enable HTML Remote Control for a user role - in addition to the standard Remote Control?
Our "IT Help Desk" users have Remote Control Tools enabled, including View and Edit for the "Remote Control" feature. Direct and Gateway Remote Control work fine for them, for user on LAN and WAN - no issues that I am aware of. Both the "LANDesk Administrator" and "IT Help Desk" roles appear the same in the configuration - screen print is below.
They are unable to use the HTML Remote Control feature though. After entering credentials they receive a pop-up that states "Message from webpage - Invalid username, password, or domain!".
If it matters, they are local administrators on the workstations.
The HTML Remote Control feature works for users with the "LANDesk Administrator" role (which have only "user" local rights on the target workstations).
I have tested from the same source machine and source browser to the same target machines. In all cases the issue persists - it functions for users with "LANDesk Administrator" role, but not "IT Help Desk" role.
We're running 9.5 SP2.
Thanks!
How to manually install the Remote Control "Enurcsetup.exe" in another language than english?
Environment:
All LDMS Versions
Review Date:
06/10/2014
How to:
On your LDMS Web Console, you are struggling to download the piece of software which will let you launch "Remote Control". Hence, you may need to install it manually, and this software is a exe file called enurcsetup.exe located on your Core Server.
You have also the option to install this software in another language (Ex; In German) in order to open Remote Control in your preferred language.
Step by Step:
1- With the appropriate windows right, on a CMD command, go in: \\<CORESERVER\C$\inetpub\wwwroot\Common\ folder
2- For German language (Your OS as to be configured as such), type the following command "Deurcsetup.exe /s /v"LDLANG=DEU /qn"
3- For English language, type the following command "Enurcsetup.exe /s /v/qn"
It will run silently with these switches, you can then deploy it to several computers if needed through a batch file to be deployed.
LANDesk Remote Control Tray Icon on Servers (via Remote Desktop)
On my LANDesk 9.6 server I use the same set of Remote Control settings in both my Windows desktop and server agent configurations. On my Windows desktop clients I can see the "LANDesk Remote Control" icon in the task tray (near the date/time in the bottom right corner). I do not see this icon on my Windows servers. I've confirmed that I am showing all icons.
I've seen similar issues in the past with McAfee, for example, when viewing a computer via remote desktop. In those situations I was able to run an update or show the console, which magically brought the icon back into the tray. I'm assuming the issue is a similar one - maybe it's not a LANDesk issue at all; maybe it is a remote desktop issue (Microsoft).
I'm curious if others have this behavior and if there is a fix. Ideally, I would like to see the LANDesk icon in the task tray with all other icons immediately after logging in via RDP.
Remotely Access Computer Web Cam /Camera?
I think I know the answer to my question is no, but ill ask.
Is there an ability in LD 9.5 or 9.6 to access the web cam on a device. I have gotten a business request for this as the new laptop/tablet have web cams on both sides of the device and the business would like to have the remote user us the web cam to show support staff in real time what an issues(may not even computer related looks like). Since we deploy LD on all devices it would be nice to do this form LD remote control or another utility without deploying a separate software package like webex. I don't think this feature is currently available.
Has this/could be added to enhancements list? Could be used as a face to face conference during typically desktop support sessions as well.
